Who should report suspected child abuse and neglect?
Anyone who suspects a child is being abused or neglected, or is at risk of being abused or neglected, is encouraged to report.
Anyone who works with children in a professional capacity is required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect as identified in the Ohio Revised Code section 2152.421. Those individuals include, but are not limited to:
Attorneys
Audiologists
Child Care Workers
Children Services Workers
Clergy
Coroners
Day Care Personnel
Dentists
Nurses
Physicians, Including Interns and Residents
Podiatrists
Psychologists
School Authorities
School Employees
School Psychologists
School Teachers
Social Workers
Speech Pathologists
Other Health Care Professionals
Employees of Certified Child Care Agencies
Licensed Professional Counselors
Practitioner of limited branch of medicine or surgery
as defined in R.C. 4731.15
Do I have to leave my name?
No, you may report anonymously, but you are encouraged to give your name and a contact phone number. This makes it possible for the child protective worker to get in touch with you late if additional or clarifying information is needed.
All reporter information is strictly confidential and will not be given to the family.
