Facts about Children Services

*    Our mission is to protect children and strengthen families.

*    We make every effort to help children stay safely with their own families.

*    Children can be removed from home by a court order of officer acceptance.  Our agency does not have the authority to remove children without one of the above.

*    Our actions are not arbitrary.  They are regulated by law.  The system has checks and balances.  It involves many different community partners with Children Services including police, hospitals, the prosecutor’s office, Juvenile Court, schools and a wide range of child-serving organizations.

*   Children Services seeks a Juvenile Court order to remove a child when the child is in immediate danger from their surroundings and their removal is necessary to protect the child's health, safety and welfare.

*    Parents have full due process rights in the system.  They have the right to legal representation, to be heard in court and to appeal any decisions.
